What does crack and regrade mean?
Breaking a card out of its slab and sending it back for a new grade — which can come back lower as well as higher.
What it means
Collectors crack a slab open when they think the card deserves more than its label says, and send it in again.
The old grade is gone the moment the slab is opened: the card comes back with whatever it is given now, higher or lower. A crossover differs here — a card that misses returns in its old slab.

- SlabScore prices every grade the company has sold, including the ones under the grade you hold, and never says which one you will get.
- Each line is what you would have against simply selling the slab you own: the new market, less the fee, postage both ways and the selling fee on each sale.
- At the grade you already hold the figure is always negative — the fee, paid to change nothing.
- The ordinary tier fee applies, sized on what the slab you hold sells for today.
